Government Formation this year is necessary to ensure continued Reforms in Brcko

Brčko District is on the brink of rebranding itself as an engine of reform in BiH, and with that it will bring to the citizens of the District the quality of life and economic opportunities they deserve, the Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor, Michael Scanlan, stated.

Today the first tender for the port’s modernization was issued. Yesterday, the Brčko Authorities had a productive meeting with the World Bank on how the District can engage in an array of infrastructure projects under the “Sava and Drina Rivers Corridors Integrated Development Program.” Steps were also taken yesterday to further advance the drafting of a high-quality, European-standard Conflict of Interest Law with meaningful consequences for those who would violate it. This will join the new Law on Budget, the Law on Associations and Foundations, and the online Registry of Public Officials as a critical tool to ensure the transparent and fiscally responsible use of public funds for the good of the entire community.

Furthermore, the technical government is actively working with international partners on a broad array of initiatives to be launched this spring to accelerate the application of good governance practices, public administration reform, infrastructure development and pro-business initiatives to attract good-paying private-sector jobs to the District.

“For this great new awakening of Brčko District to come to quick fruition there must be a new Assembly and government in place this year. Thus, it is time for the political parties to reach agreement and keep to their commitment to have the inaugural session of the Brčko District Assembly before 25 December. I look forward to travelling next week to the District to attend it,” added Supervisor Scanlan.
