As a response to the long-term needs after the devastating floods in May 2014, the Government of Japan in the cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) launches a project “Risk Managements of Landslides“ worth 5 million BAM.
At the same time, the Government of Japan in the cooperation with UNDP started a project worth 1.2 million BAM “Rehabilitation and the reconstruction of centers for disabled children in BiH“, which will be carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in BiH.
On that occasion, on Monday 23rd February in Sarajevo, press conference will be held at which the following guests will talk to reporters: Hideo Yamazaki, the ambassador of Japan in BiH, Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP and Harry Smith, and the Acting Head of Office of IOM in BiH.
Landslides are a constant danger in BiH and they represent a complex and growing problem for all levels of government, and especially for the local communities affected by landslides.
According to the Estimation of the need for rehabilitation, floods in May 2014, had activated more than 3.000 landslides throughout the country, which led to the destruction of nearly 2.000 houses.
The project of Risk management from landslides will ensure the concrete support for local authorities on nine locations affected by landslides and flood for the rehabilitation and stabilization of landslides through the investment with the goal of reducing the risk and strengthening capacities for management and monitoring landslides.
As a part of the project “Rehabilitation and reconstruction of centers for disabled children in BiH, rehabilitation and reconstruction of five centers for disabled children which were affected by floods will be made, and that in Derventa, Orasje, Bijeljina, Srbac and Prijedor, as announced from UNDP BiH.
