Representatives of the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton adopted on Monday the Act on Amendments to the Law on Acquisition, Holding and Carrying of Weapons and Ammunition.

As Minister of Internal Affairs of Canton Sarajevo Admir Katica, who is also a proponent of this Law, explained the barriers that existed in the earlier law, which are related to the exercise of citizens’ rights to procure, carrying and holding weapons and ammunition.

“First of all, citizens will now be able to carry out practical training,” Katica said.

According to him, every citizen who owns a weapon has so far had to provide a medical certificate to the competent police authority after ten years, otherwise the weapon would have been taken away.

Also, novelty is that physical person will be sentenced to a fine of 1,000 to 2,000 BAM which carry a cold weapon for no justified reason in public places, religious gatherings, educational institutions and other public places.
