Great Number of BH Citizens gives up BH Citizenship and takes German

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Minister of Civil Affairs Adil Osmanovic spoke on Monday in Sarajevo with a newly appointed consul in Stuttgart Began Muhic on co-operation in areas where the Ministry has jurisdiction.

“The problem of a large number of citizens who give up the citizenship of BiH and take German citizenship is of a vast importance to us. We are aware that the German constitution does not allow the signing of a dual citizenship agreement,” stated Osmanovic at the meeting, adding that the possibility to reduce the number of those who abandon citizenship should be considered.

At the meeting, it was noted that approximately 250,000 citizens of BiH live in Germany, of which approximately 70,000 use the consulate services in Stuttgart.

Bearing in mind such a large number of Bosnians, a special attention should be paid to the education of children.

“At present, there are 50 supplementary schools in Germany for the children of BiH decent, and the work of these schools would greatly be facilitated by the institutional connection with the educational authorities in BiH,” said Muhic.

Osmanovic and Muhic expressed readiness for close cooperation.
