Guardiola: Haaland is happy at Manchester City

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola today rejected claims by the Spanish media that his team’s footballer Erling Haaland is unhappy at the club.

Spanish media reported that the Norwegian striker “can’t stand” the city and bad weather in England and would be interested in a move to Real Madrid.

Haaland moved from Borussia Dortmund to City in 2022 and scored 36 goals in the Premier League in his first season in which he also won the title.

“You have to ask the media from Madrid if he is unhappy. Maybe they have more information than me. We don’t have the impression that he is unhappy. He was because he couldn’t play, he was injured for two months, but maybe the media from Spain, especially Madrid, have more information from us,” Guardiola said, as reported by the BBC.

“We can’t control what people say, but it’s important that he’s happy. When he’s unhappy, he’ll make a decision,” added the Spanish coach.

Haaland returned to action in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Burnley in the Premier League after a 10-game layoff with a foot injury, and could start against Brentford on Monday.

“He played 25 minutes and every transition, every pass, all the players look at him. I know how important he is for us. We try to make all the forwards happy, especially him and it will depend on how we play. If we play well, he will get a lot of balls. That’s what what we want, and after that, he will do the rest,” Guardiola said.

City is currently second in the table with five points less and a game less than the leader Liverpool.
