“If the authorities call us, we are able to deal with the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with our mission. Our mission is stability, maintenance of a safe and stable environment in this country,” EUFOR Commander in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Major General Helmut Habermayer, told BHRT.

“I think we are very well trained and well equipped to fulfill that task and that mission, anytime and anywhere in the country,” Habermeyer pointed out.

He emphasized that the task of the police forces is to always first try to contain any riots, but that EUFOR is ready to help if necessary.

Habermeyer praised the cooperation with the authorities in our country, but also with the police force.

“According to my experience, I really dealt with this a lot, cooperation with the authorities, with our reserve forces, work with our troops deployed in the area of operations works well and we can carry out this task, for the benefit of every citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Because, we are here, at the end of the day, not only to support the authorities, but to ensure a safe and stable environment for every citizen of this country. And that is how I understand my job here. I can tell you that our forces are quite capable and sufficient for this task,” said Habermeyer.

He spoke about the recently held EUFOR Rapid Response 2023 exercise, noting that it was extremely successful.

“We had the opportunity to train and practice. The number of troops during the exercise rose to 1,400,” he said.

He said that the aim of the military exercises is to teach them that, in accordance with the situation, additional forces can come to BiH and be deployed.

He also spoke about his experience of life in BiH, pointing out that the country is beautiful.

“My ambition is that we will celebrate more milestones together,” says Ambassador Soreca
