Hakija Hadzalic, a longtime cameraman, passed away in Sarajevo. Among other things, he will be remembered for filming the Sarajevo City Hall as it was engulfed in flames.

Friends are saying goodbye to him on social networks. Emotional status was published by journalist Arijana SaracevicHelac.

“The hero of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has left. Our colleague Hakija Hadzalic. A genius behind the camera whose pictures have traveled the world countless times. He filmed the City Hall where two million books and 300 manuscripts were burning. Those pictures would not exist if they were not taken by my respected colleague Hakija. He cried then,” Saracevic Helac wrote.

He also, she adds, filmed a maternity hospital in Sarajevo, massacres, fighters in trenches, he was in Dayton and Washington, filmed the killing of Mostar.

“Many documentaries and research stories were made by his camera. He was our friend who never betrayed us. Uncompromising and incorruptible. Unfortunately, his life was taken by injustice. Yes, only injustice. He worked with his heart and left history to the state,” said Saracevic Helac.
