Around twenty women from Bijeljina, gathered in the creative group “Creative people of Bijeljina”, have been successfully presenting their handicrafts in cities across BiH for three years now, managing to bring together the pleasant and the useful, because many of them fill their home budgets by selling interesting and useful handicrafts.
Milka Pantić, a 65-year-old retiree from Triješnica near Bijeljina, is making tablecloths on the basis of jute.
“When I was a little girl I learned how to crochet, sew and knit. I made tablecloths and interesting toys. I am retired now so I have more time for these activities. When I earn ten BAM by selling the tablecloths, I am happier than when I receive the pension,” Milka Pantić says.
Olja Čičić says that women gathered in this creative group organize joint workshops every month, where they plan their activities and selling exhibitions.
“We had exhibitions in Zvornik, Brčko, Lopare, Banja Luka. We are also preparing an exhibition in Sarajevo,” Čičić says.
Creative women of Bijeljina make jewelry, jewelry boxes and other home accessories. They bring together the pleasant and the useful in, how they say, tough economic times, when people mostly think about providing minimal conditions for living.
