Kamala Harris promised a tougher approach to migration along the United States (U.S.) southern border and said she would not withhold weapons from Israel, in her first interview with a major news organization since becoming the Democratic nominee for president.

In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Harris sought to show that she is in control of the issues and give Americans a sense of where she stands on the political front just over two months ahead of the November 5th election.

Harris said she would renew efforts for comprehensive border legislation that would crack down on migration into the U.S. and vowed to “enforce our laws” at border crossings.

“We have laws that must be followed and enforced that deal with people who cross our border illegally, and there should be consequences for that,” Harris said.

She has also closely followed President Joe Biden’s strong support for Israel and rejected calls from some in the Democratic Party that Washington should reconsider sending weapons to Israel because of the high Palestinian death toll in Gaza.

She said she supported a strong Israel, but “we have to reach an agreement” to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict.

“No, we have to reach an agreement (on the ceasefire and the hostages),” Harris said when asked if she would keep arms to Israel.

She has been Biden’s vice president since the beginning of his administration.
