HDZ 1990 and Partners Reach Landmark Agreement on Joint Candidate for BiH Presidency

Zdenko Lučić is officially the candidate of the “Petorka” coalition (HDZ 1990, HRS, HNP, HSS, and HDS) for the member of the BiH Presidency from among the Croat people. This was decided following a meeting of the party leaders held on Tuesday at noon in Mostar.

With this move, HDZ 1990, HRS, HSS, HNP, and HDS have put an end to the naming saga regarding their candidate for the Presidency race, where he joins HDZ’s candidate Darijana Filipović and Slaven Kovačević, who seeks to succeed Željko Komšić.

As a reminder, Lučić had previously presented himself as a legitimate candidate for the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina even before official confirmation from the “Petorka” arrived. Ilija Cvitanović, President of HDZ 1990, briefly told N1 at the time:

“We are all legitimate candidates. During the following week, we will verify an independent candidate. We will see if he receives confirmation. Everything will be known next week.”

On the other hand, in a post on his Facebook profile, Lučić presented a plan and strategy for the upcoming period. He stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a sovereign and internationally recognized state of three constituent peoples, operates in a complex and shifting security environment, and that contemporary challenges no longer encompass only traditional military threats, but also political, social, economic, cyber, information, environmental, and health risks. In the published draft, the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina is also linked to the security of the Western Balkans region and Europe as a whole.
