Belma Kapo, a representative in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, has submitted an initiative to the Sarajevo Canton Government for the introduction of SOS bracelets, specifically pendants, for victims of domestic violence.
She recalled the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, citing Article 28, Paragraph 4:
“The supervision of the implementation of the protective measure of a restraining order may be conducted through electronic movement monitoring.”
In this regard, she noted that SOS devices mean an emergency alarm is sent to the police with a single press of a button, automatically sharing the GPS location.
Furthermore, SOS devices allow for rapid intervention by patrols and, as she put it, discreet protection when it is most needed.
“Every second can be decisive. Let’s try to prevent tragic outcomes in this way as well,” Kapo said.
This initiative comes in the wake of another femicide. On Sunday, Elma Godinjak Prusac was murdered in the hallway of her apartment building in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Dobrinja. Although Tarik Prusac, with whom she was in the process of divorce, had a restraining order, he fired two shots at her from a service pistol that he failed to return to the security agency after his shift, Klix.ba writes.
