The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton – Police Directorate destroyed 31 seized motor vehicles and one moped which were deposited at the landfill in Reljevo.
Previously, a public invitation was held in which the vehicles in question were offered for sale, together as one item of sale, without the possibility of registration and release into traffic. The initial price for all motor vehicles was 66,000 KM, and it was given on the basis of an analysis and assessment made by a court expert in the field of mechanical engineering.
Given that there were no interested buyers, the KS Ministry of Interior – Police Administration, in accordance with the decision of the Municipal Court, proceeded to apply the alternative measure that the court passed, which is the destruction of the vehicles in question.
One part of the vehicles that were destroyed was taken from multiple offenders – returnees for committing traffic violations, and the other part is about vehicles without plates or with old and inappropriate plates. The oldest vehicles that were destroyed are the Volkswagen Golf and the Volkswagen Caravelle from 1985, while the youngest vehicle is the Volkswagen Golf 6 from 2009.
“More than 450 vehicles have been seized by the police from multiple offenders from the middle of 2023 until today. If we add to that the vehicles that were confiscated in previous years, on various grounds, as well as the vehicles that were confiscated by other security agencies (SIPA, FMUP), there are more than 1,000 vehicles at the depot in Reljevo. We have repeatedly pointed out the lack of capacity and expanded the depot’s space. We asked the competent courts to speed up the resolution this issue and determine what will happen to these vehicles, because the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton spends a lot of money on their deposit and preservation. We currently have about 150 court decisions ordering the sale or destruction of vehicles, and we will act in accordance with them,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica.
On the basis of a public call, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton – the Police Directorate chose a company that has the necessary permits for waste management and that destroyed vehicles in the manner prescribed by law. Funds from the collection of this type of waste will be paid into the Sarajevo Canton Budget, the Ministry of Interior announced.
