The Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Zukan Helez, yesterday spoke with the military envoy of the United States (U.S.) in BiH, Brigadier Eric Adams, about the further development and activities of the Armed Forces of BiH(AFBiH), as well as the political situation in Europe and the region.
Adams congratulated Helez on the fact that BiH received the ‘green light’ to start negotiations for full membership in the European Union (EU).
Helez pointed out that he is proud that the Council of Ministers of BiH, in which he is the deputy chairman, has done more in one year than the other convocations of the Council of Ministers of BiH in many years.
”With the opening of negotiations for full membership in the EU, the real work for BiH on the Euro-Atlantic path begins, and we will continue to help you in this,” said the U.S. military envoy to BiH.
Helez especially emphasized that he is extremely glad that NATO’s public communication highlights the fact that the door to full membership in the NATO alliance is open to BiH, Ukraine, and Georgia and that our country stands out as the only one of those countries that has the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
”We want to thank you for the fact that we have the key support of the U.S. in this, as well as in dealing with malignant influences that try to hinder us in this,” Helez said.
Brigadier Adams stated that the recent visit of members of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) to BiH was very successful and useful for BiH.
The interlocutors also discussed the challenges in the process of procurement and modernization of the AFBiH, as well as the process of recruiting personnel for the AFBiH, the Ministry of Defense of BiH announced.
