Hennessey: Returnees in BIH Have Suffered Long Enough

Mary-Ann-Hennessey-2-2The Head of the Council of Europe to BIH Mary Ann Hennessey was in Prijedor for a few days in order to pay tribute at the former concentration camp Omarska to the victims who suffered here.

After the meeting with the mayor of Prijedor Marko Pavić, Hennessey expressed satisfaction that the Mayor does not wish to be an obstacle to the construction of a memorial to civilian victims from his city, which would serve as a place for remembrance and for education.

“I hope that all communities that live in the city would participate in dialogue about the memorial and that their representatives in the City Assembly would do a good job’’, said Hennessey.

She also expressed expectation that the Investment Forum of BIH Diaspora held in Prijedor from 11-12 August would further encourage BIH citizens abroad to become included in the economic and social development of their homeland, as well as their European integration.

“Returnees throughout the country have suffered long enough. Annex 7 of the Dayton Peace Agreement calls on all relevant bodies to become included in the efforts to create an environment without discrimination, intimidation or harassment, where people can freely return to live in their pre-war homes and build successful lives for their families, whether they are in Prijedor, Zvornik, Posavina or Sarajevo’’, said Hennessey and announced from the Office of the Council of Europe in Sarajevo.
