In recent years, there has been an evident increase in the employment of foreign workers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and this is especially emphasized in the construction industry. This is the result of the outflow of the domestic labor force, which finds better conditions in the European Union (EU) market.
According to the data of the Service for Affairs with Foreigners, in 2021, 2.319 work permits were granted to foreign nationals, in 2022, 2.619 permits were granted, while in the period from January 1st to November 1st this year, 3.058 work permits were granted to foreign nationals.
It is evident from these data that the import of foreign labor into BiH is constantly increasing.
This year, the largest number of foreign workers are from Turkey (659), Serbia (531), India (144), China (140), and Nepal (100).… One worker each who received a work permit in BiH this year came from the Aland Islands, Angola, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Solomon Islands…
When it comes to the past year 2022, the largest number of workers came from Turkey (592) and Serbia (552), while in 2021, the largest number of workers came from Serbia (533).
Employers in BiH requested more than 10.000 work permits for foreigners this year.
This was stated earlier by the director of the FBiH Employers’ Association, Mario Nenadic, emphasizing that the biggest shortage of workers is in the wood, metal, and chemical industries, as well as service industries and catering.
The trend of hiring foreign workers has been evident for the last ten years, mostly from Turkey, Serbia, and Croatia, and recently there has been a significant increase in the number of workers from Nepal and Bangladesh. This trend will continue due to the departure of the domestic workforce, Biznis Info writes.
