American Abby Pratt shared on TikTok a comical story that happened to her when going to Dubrovnik, when instead of in this city, she ended up in an accommodation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). She explained the whole mix-up in an interview.
Namely, Pratt traveled to Dubrovnik together with a friend, and through Airbnb, she booked accommodation, believing that it was also located in Dubrovnik.
However, their apartment was across the border – in BiH. In the video shared on TikTok, she wrote: “When you accidentally book accommodation in the wrong country that is not Croatia, and no taxi driver dares to take you across the border, so they leave you at the border crossing.”
In an interview, Abby explained how this situation actually came about.
“Usually I book everything at the last minute… usually Airbnb has similar offers, and I try to travel as cheaply as possible, because I usually explore during the day,” she said.
That spontaneity led her to book an apartment she thought was only 15 minutes away from Dubrovnik, only to later find out that it was on the other side of an international border.
“I looked at the map and saw that it was in BiH, but I didn’t realize that it’s like crossing a border,” Pratt shared.
The taxi driver, upon arrival, gave them the shocking news, which left them confused: “He said, This is not in Croatia. And we replied: ‘What?’. We were so confused. He said it is 20 minutes away, but that it is not in Croatia.”
Since the driver told them he did not have a permit to cross the border into BiH, they decided to walk from the border crossing with all their suitcases to the accommodation. That walk became the subject of their viral TikTok video.
Crossing the border again drew attention, Abby recounted: “I must say that we got a lot of grimaces from people in cars. As if they were just giving us grimaces, strange facial expressions. Nobody was really kind. The funniest thing was that we were just standing in line with luggage, and it was like a whole line for cars.”
Leaving BiH was not as simple as walking through: “I didn’t know that we had to go through the line for cars. We tried to walk around, and they shouted at us – no, no, you have to go back.”
She added that they booked other accommodation in Croatia and that their story definitely fits into stereotypes about Americans, Klix.ba writes.
