How did Dodik and Covic overnight become useful to the International Community?

The leaders of HDZ and SNSD, Dragan Covic and Milorad Dodik, yesterday further strengthened their partnership and presented a kind of ultimatum to the third partner, whoever it was.

What is interesting, but also devastating, is the statement made by the president of the Republika Srpska (RS) and the first man of the SNSD, Milorad Dodik, about the pact between his party and the HDZ, which is yet to dominate and issue ultimatums.

“We coordinate all policies and activities. HDZ and SNSD, which were previously connoted by the international community as a problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), now appear as a solution for the quick establishment of government after the elections. We have an agreement with HDZ that no one bothers anyone and that is the best in BiH,“ stated Dodik.

“Our partnership with SNSD has no alternative. HDZ will not act without SNSD, SNSD will not act without HDZ,” Covic will add.

This shows that the representatives of the international community have not really succeeded or simply did not want to weaken the destabilizing policies that these two parties have been pursuing for the past four years.

The government in the RS openly worked to destroy state institutions, blocked their work, undermined the Dayton Peace Agreement and democratic processes, and at the same time they were labeled as pro-Russian, which the SNSD did not hide during Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Apart from blacklisting the SNSD cadres on the American and British blacklists, the European Union (EU) did not do anythingto prevent the spread of negative policies against the interests of citizens and the state of BiH. True, they released press releases and declaratively condemned Dodik’s policy.

On the other hand, HDZ’s Dragan Covic has been labeled in the reports of international officials as a politician who advocates the establishment of a third entity and blocks the holding of elections through his ministers, and conditions the process by changes to the BiH Election Law in cooperation with Zagreb. His cadre, President of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), Marinko Cavara, ended up on the United States (U.S.) blacklist.

Since they failed to tame the HDZ-SNSD axis, it is obvious that the foreigners have accepted the situation in the field and that now the policies of these two parties are acceptable and that they are desirable factors for, as Dodik said, the establishment of systems and government structures at the level of BiH.

With yesterday’s statement that HDZ will not act without SNSD and vice versa, a clear message has been sent to all those who are making a plan to oust SNSD out of power. We could hear announcements that it is possible to be without the SNSD from the parties of Osmorka (the Eight), but now it is clear that the very attempt would result in the loss of HDZ’s support, and that is equal to the loss of power, which Osmorka ardently wants, at any cost.

Months of political upheaval, shuffling and trade are ahead. The two parties are sure that they will be in power, and who will be the partner will decide – who knows who. One thing is certain, foreign diplomats give (un)hidden support to political options in ousting the SDA from power at all levels of government, while when it comes to HDZ and SNSD, they still can’t do anything, Klix.ba reports.
