The Decision according to which it is only possible to import vehicles that meet the Euro 4 standard was supposed to become effective in B&H since January 1. 2015. That did not happen. Cars older than 10 years with Euro 3 standard can still be imported from abroad and registered in B&H.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications stated that additional analysis is being conducted and that the drafting of the text of new decision, according to which the lowest criterion for import of passenger vehicles will be the Euro 4 standard, is in terminal stage.
It was pointed out that the Decision on minimum technical requirements for newly produced and used vehicles in the type-approval of vehicles and homologation of individual vehicle was reached on October 1, 2010 and published in the Official gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina number 89/10, with one amendment from 2012 published in the Official gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina number 09/12.
The Decision that cars less than seven years old can be imported in B&H was annulled in 2011, so cars older than 10 years with Euro 3 standard were imported in B&H.
Upon the request by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of B&H and the Ministry of Transport and Communications, at the session held on December 28, 2010 the Council of Ministers of B&H reached a Decision and amendments to the decision on limitation of import of passenger vehicles, freight vehicles and car tires.
As the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Igor Pejić explained, the Decision enabled the import of passenger cars older than seven years and freight vehicles older than ten years if they meet the minimum technical requirements for newly produced and used vehicles in the type-approval of vehicles and homologation of individual vehicle in accordance with the Decision, concretely vehicles with at least Euro 3 characteristics, which enabled citizens of B&H to import vehicles older than seven years.
According to the latest data of the Indirect Taxation Authority, in the period from January 1 to November 11 this year 55,172 passenger vehicles have been imported in B&H. Of the mentioned number, 49,736 are used vehicles and 5,436 are newly produced vehicles.
