In the first quarter of this year, Diaspora sent almost 619 million BAM or 5% more in relation to the same period last year, and only through cash payments.

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina explains that the better economic situation of people who have been in Diaspora for years is the main reason for increasing private cash transactions, reports Vecernji List BiH.

“In addition, as a reason for increasing money from abroad, which amounted to 618.8 million BAM in the first quarter of this year, an increasing number of refugees from BiH who are sending money home,” was stated from the Central Bank.

Since 2008, when the world economic crisis broke out, cash payments from abroad began to fall, and this trend had continued until 2012, starting to gradually recover.

Earlier data shows that in all previous years, financial assistance to BiH citizens increased to reach the level of 2007 when most money was received when 2.51 billion BAM was sent. Economists point out that the inflow of money from abroad is a logical consequence of the mass outflow of working-age population from these areas. According to some sources, most cash comes from Germany, and two years ago from the country in BiH some 180 million BAM was sent.
