Hoyt Yee: To punish All Politicians who are doing Damage to BiH

Hoyt YeeHoyt Yee, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told the Voice of America that Washington, as a guarantor of the Dayton Agreement, will help BiH institutions to hold accountable and disable politicians who damage BiH, so that they will not be able to continue doing such damage to this country.

He recalled that in the address of the candidates for the new US Secretary of State Tillerson was heard that the United States “they consider that it is extremely important to held accountable all of our partners, friendly countries, in terms of what they accepted as a liability, what they have promised.”

“Leaders of BiH once signed the Dayton Agreement, and they are obliged to respect the Constitution of BiH and all the other laws of the country. Therefore, everyone in BiH who wants or is trying to avoid compliance with the Dayton Constitution and the Law, must be held accountable,” said Yee.

He noted that they have always represented the idea of the position of the United States very clearly when it comes to BiH.

“We stand behind BiH on its path to join the EU in order to strengthen the economy and open new workplaces. Also, we will resist and oppose any effort to make moves contrary to these efforts because such moves are pulling BiH back to division and conflict and instability. In this sense, we will help BH institutions – the police, the judiciary, the media, civil society – to be able to hold politicians accountable, that can draw public attention to the irregularities of these politicians who work against the interests of BiH,” he noted.

When it comes to BiH,  added Yee, Washington believes that priority must be those reforms that serve the current needs of the citizens of BiH. Thus, reforms that will make the state apparatus much more functional and more efficient, which will provide greater stability and security in the country, which will open up new opportunities for young people, whether it comes to education, health insurance, or a job.

“In this regard, we believe that BiH leaders who are driving attention from these reforms, who are trying to change the course of the country rather than contribute to security, stability and prosperity of the country, leaders who seek to enter the division, seek to deliberately create problems and obstacles to the integration process of BiH, whether with foreign countries or within BiH, between the entities, therefore, these leaders, we think, act directly against the will of the people, and against the wishes and efforts of the international community for this country to succeed,” warned Yee.
