Thousands of BiH Flags placed all over Sarajevo prior to Independence Day

Workers of the company “Park”, by placing flags of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on the stands of the pillar of public lighting this morning, started decorating biggest Sarajevo streets and squares on the occasion of Independence Day of BiH, which will be marked on Friday.

A team from the company “Park”, specializing in decorating the city streets, will set hundreds of flags of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Baščaršija via Maršala Tita street, Zmaja od Bosne, Meša Selimovića and Džemal Bijedića streets to Stup and back or Nedžarići, Otoka, Čengić Vila, Dolac Malta, Pofalići, Socijalno, Marijin Dvor, Obala Kulina Bana until the City Hall.

“Special attention will be devoted to the places of celebrations of the Independence Day of BiH on Friday. This includes the area near the City Hall, where the solemn ceremony will take place, part of Maršala Tito Street, and the Liberation Square – Alija Izetbegović. At these locations, workers of the Sector of Maintenance these days are engaged on additional horticulture and cleaning of public green areas.

Independence Day is a national holiday which is celebrated on the 1st of March every year, and it is celebrating the independence of BiH from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The referendum for the independence of BiH was held on the recommendation of the Arbitration Commission of the International Conference on Yugoslavia, in the final stages of dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. It was held on the 29th of February and the 1st of March, and it marked opting of citizens on the future of the country, but it was also introduction to a bloody war.

Adult citizens of the Socialist Republic of BiH voted on independence of BiH in the referendum in which the only question was: Are you for a sovereign and independent BiH, a state of equal citizens, peoples of BiH – Muslims, Serbs, Croats and members of other nations who live in it?

Independence Day of BiH is on March 1st and it is celebrated one day.
