imagIn the finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2014 competition held in Seattle, the Avanade People’s Choice Award for the best project was won by students from the Faculty of Information Technology in Mostar.

In the last two days the winners of the Imagine Cup 2014 competition in partnership and main categories were also pronounced, and the last day there was a public presentation of the student projects, held in the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. The Avanade People’s Choice Award went to the Team Chemicalium from B&H, made of students from the Faculty of Information Technology in Mostar: Amra Buljubašić, Ema Begulić, Hamza Sabljaković and Samir Šupčić.

Our students presented an application called Chemicalium, destined to pupils of elementary schools and which enables learning chemistry by using smartphones and NFC technologies while forming chemical compounds and makes the whole process more fun. After many positive comments they received from the jury and the Microsoft employees, the visitors of the Museum in Seattle recognized the quality and the potential of their project and supported them in their future work.

“Getting to the finals in Seattle was not easy, since we worked on the project for eight months. Nevertheless, the students had faith that it’s going to be worth it and they really left their knowledge and their heart in this project, which was finally recognized at the Imagine Cup 2014. We thank everyone who supported us on this path.” – said Mohamed El-Zayat, higher assistant at the FIT.

“The students from B&H confirmed once again that they hold a continuity of good results at the Microsoft Imagine Cup competition. We are extremely proud of their project and presentation during the competition and we hope their success will inspire other students in our country to join this project starting September next year so they could also get a chance to show their knowledge and skills at the global level.” – said Enis Šahinović, leader of the Imagine Cup project at the Microsoft B&H.

The winner of the Imagine Cup 2014 Trophy who also won in the category of social responsibility is the team Eyenaemia from Australia, while the team Brainy Studio from Russia won the 1st prize in the game category and the team Estimeet from New Zealand won the 1st prize in the innovation category. All winners received a financial award of 50 000 Dollars while the Australian team members also got the chance to meet one of the Microsoft founders, Bill Gates.

Microsoft announced that the finals of the Imagine Cup 2015 will take place in the headquarters of Microsoft, in Seattle again.
