Improve Cooperation Between BIH and OIC Member States

SONY DSCChairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda received yesterday in Sarajevo the General Secretary of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. They spoke about the progress in cooperation between BiH and OIC member states.

Bevanda thanked the General Secretary Ihsanoglu for the efforts that OIC and member states give to BIH, especially in continuing the efforts for return and said that BiH has to improve cooperation with OIC.

Ihsanoglu said that there is a prejudice that exists that the OIC gathers only Islamic countries, stressing that the OIC is the second biggest intergovernmental organization in the world after the UN, and that most of the member states are not majority Muslim countries.

He spoke to Bevanda about the benefits that BiH would have as a full member due to the access to OIC development funds.

“Full membership is a developmental chance and we have to begin to use our cultural richness for this. If the OIC were to lend us support in developmental projects in the energy sector or efforts in the construction of international transport corridor this country would look completely different’’, said Bevanda.

He stressed how this is a chance that we are not supposed to miss, especially since membership to the OIC is not in conflict with other multilateral organizations.
