Employees of the tourist agency Insider Sarajevo and the Association ”Little Ambassadors” (”Mali ambasadori”) have announced the start of a new season of free tours of the sights of Sarajevo for the youngest fellow citizens, as part of the “LittleAmbassadors of Sarajevo” project.
As project coordinator Ajla Krkalic said, the Little Ambassadors association was founded by a group of tourist guides aware of the local cultural treasures, with the aim of educating the youngest members of the community and improving their education.
“Our mission has been going on for five years, it is aimed at the development of projects in informal education through lifelong learning in an innovative way. We want to give children the opportunity to get to know their environment better and the riches it abounds in. It was with this goal in mind that the project ‘Little Ambassadors’ was born, through which we realize free walking tours in the old center of Sarajevo, for students in the third grade of elementary schools,” she stressed.
She points out the long-term cooperation with educators and emphasizes that it is easy to implement those applications for the Project.
“Third-grade class teachers register their class via our e-mail address. Interest in our project is also confirmed by the fact that we exceeded the number of 4,000 little ambassadors of Sarajevo,” she said.
She adds that in previous years that project was implemented for preschoolers and all elementary school students.
As Krkalic emphasizes, their exciting adventure begins in front of the Insider Agency, they continue across the Latin bridge, along the coast of Miljacka. After telling the students the story of the City Hall and the Inat House, they continue to Kazandziluk, where they visit the coppersmiths who have been creating unique art objects for centuries and passing on this tradition. The participants of that project then refresh themselves with water from Sebilj, before continuing towards Morica Han(Khan) and Beg’s Mosque. The journey through the rich history of Sarajevo, enriched by children’s curiosity, ends with a visit to the Ferhadija Mosque, the Museum of the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos.
“After the completion of the project, the awarding of diplomas is planned. Each of the participants will receive a diploma and the title of ‘Little Ambassador of Sarajevo’,” she said.
The importance of that project was recognized by the Municipality of Centar, the Tourist Board of Canton Sarajevo (CS) and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of CS, and thanks to them, sightseeing tours in the city will be free for children. The project has been implemented since September 8th, and ends in mid-November, Klix.ba reports.
