Inaugural Session of BiH Presidency to be Held on Monday

presidencyThe inaugural session of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been announced for Monday, seven days after the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the final results of the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 October.

In next four years, members of the BiH Presidency will be Bakir Izetbegović, Dragan Čović and Mladen Ivanić.

Members of the BiH Presidency perform duties in accordance with the Constitution and Rules of Procedure of the BiH Presidency, and the acts provide that the Chairman of the BiH Presidency from the earlier composition convenes an inaugural session of the newly elected Presidency, and in this case it will be Bakir Izetbegović.

The inaugural session shall be convened at the seat of the Presidency in Sarajevo and is open to the public. The newly elected members of the Presidency jointly take over their duties, take the solemn oath in the presence of members of the Presidency from the earlier composition after which each member of the Presidency shall sign the solemn declaration.

The BiH Presidency is responsible for foreign policy, appointment of ambassadors, representing BiH in international organizations, conducting negotiations for the conclusion of international agreements and proposal of the yearly budget to the Parliamentary Assembly, upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The mandate of the Presidency is four years, and Bosniak, Serb and Croat members will rotate as chairpersons every eight months, in accordance with the BiH Election Law.
