A new Government was formed in Brčko District, which is almost impossible to imagine at any other level in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Coalition of Three parties, SDA, SNSD, SDS, PDP and SP will play for the same team, along with the unavoidable HDZ. Once the team is formed, expectations are key. What can citizens expect from such a motley coalition? Especially when we take into account the mutual relationship of those parties at other levels of government?
Most of the citizens we surveyed in Brčko are still skeptical, expressing distrust and hope for minimal changes in the upcoming four-year mandate:
“Nothing special, nothing will change, as it has been before.”
“I hope it gets better.”
“Well, nothing, just like the old one. Such are my predictions.”
“We young people have no perspective here, I expect to leave as soon as possible.”
It is interesting that three former mayors, at the same time the leaders of the most important political parties in the District from all three nations, are again at the head of the Government. Together for years, but still focused on the same problems that hinder the development of this local community. However, there is no lack of optimism.
“I expect that the new members of the Government will also be focused on solving problems, each within their own jurisdiction,” said Siniša Milić, Mayor of the Brčko District of BiH (SNSD).
“I expect that we will be able to achieve better results than in previous mandates,” said Anto Domić, Deputy Mayor of the Brčko District of BiH (HDZBiH).
“I hope that most of what people expected from this structure will be government be implemented”, is the message of Esed Kadrić, the Chief Coordinator of the Government of the Brčko District of BiH (SDA).
A significant refreshment among the heads of government departments, but many wonder whether they are sufficiently professional and capable to bring about positive changes within their departments.
“It is evident that Younger people were given a chance. For the first time, we have three women in the District government, out of twelve seats. “As far as expertise is concerned, it doesn’t necessarily mean that someone with a university degree won’t be able to cope, even if they’re not in that field,” says political analyst Admir Kadrić.
The coalition of the Troika and the SDA, as well as the SNSD, SDS, PDP- and the SP, with the inevitable HDZ, unthinkable at other levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is becoming a reality in Brčko.
“The unity of all three peoples in the Brčko District is possible, but in the Federation and especially in the RS it is hardly possible among ordinary people” , says Kadrić.
“I can say that we expect the unexpected,” says Ina Pamukčić, an opposition member of the Assembly of the Brčko District of BiH (SBB).
It remains to be seen whether this unique political experiment in the District will result in concrete improvements or remain another missed opportunity, Federalna writes.
