After information appeared in the public that a well-known businessman kept a lion cub as a pet in his apartment, a Cantonal Inspection went to the field but did not find the building or the owner of the lion. Now they say that there was no lion in Poljine.

Last month, photos of famous Dubai businessman Ibrahim Al Hawai and his new pet, a lion cub, appeared on social media. It is not known how Hawai brought the lion to Sarajevo and where he bought it.

After the lion cub in Poljine became the subject of interest of the public and authorities, the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs received several reports from citizens, the inspectors went to the field on April 25th and 28th, 2023, butthen they didn’t manage to find the apartment or the owner of the lion.

Yesterday, the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs announced that the veterinary inspectors of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of Canton Sarajevo (CS)ended the inspection supervision initiated by citizens’ reports on Monday, as well as media reports on the circumstances of the alleged keeping of a lion cub in the Sarajevo settlement of Poljine, owned by Ibrahim Al Hawai, a businessman from Dubai.

“In cooperation with the police officers of the Police Administration Center, and after obtaining the correct residential address and identification of this person, the inspectors carried out surveillance within their jurisdiction in the locality of Poljine, and on that occasion also found the owner, which was ascertained from the presented personal documents. The inspectors were allowed to enter without hindrance on the property, and they could control the interior of the residential building and other auxiliary buildings on the property. During the control, no lion cub was found, nor any evidence that would suggest that the animal could have been staying at the given address,” they stated.

As they said, Hawai stated that the photo circulating on social networks was taken in Dubai on his property where he owns a number of animals, as well as the lion cub from the photos he posts on social networks, Klix.ba reports.
