The Republic Phytosanitary Inspection prohibited the import of two consignments of mercantile potatoes with a total quantity of 43.3 tons originating from Austria, because it was determined that they did not meet the quality requirements, and it was ordered to be returned to the sender, Srna was told in the Inspectorate of the Republika Srpska.

The inspection of the shipments revealed a significant presence of tubers that are in the stage of rotting, all shipments had an unpleasant smell of rotting, which is why they are unacceptable and unsuitable for human consumption.

The Inspectorate reminds that the Law on Food of Republika Srpska prescribes that when determining whether food is suitable for human consumption, it is taken into account whether the food is unacceptable due to pollution from an external cause or otherwise, or due to rotting, spoilage or decay.

In accordance with the provisions of the BiH Food Law, food is also considered unsuitable for human consumption if its sensory properties have been altered due to physical, chemical, microbiological or other processes to the extent that it is not suitable for human consumption.
