International Day of the Missing: More than 7,500 People are being searched for in BiH

The International Day of Missing Persons is being marked all over the world today, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina alone, more than 7,500 people are being searched for after the last war.

On this day, we remember and honor the tens of thousands of people around the world who disappeared in armed conflicts, committed crimes against humanity or as a result of violations of basic human rights.

The International Day of Missing Persons, August 30, declared by the United Nations, has a special significance for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the last war from 1992 to 1995, about 35,000 people disappeared in BiH, and today, two decades after the war, more than 7,500 are being sought.

Marking the International Day of the Missing is also an opportunity to once again draw the attention of all power holders to the fact that this is one of the most significant human rights issues facing not only BiH but also other countries of the former Yugoslavia, because solving the fate of thousands of missing persons is above all is the government’s obligation, as a civilizational and moral obligation to victims and victims’ families, but also to society as a whole.
