Fiber-optic internet and mobile services were restored across Afghanistan today after a nearly three-day outage ordered by the Taliban government.
Fiber-optic internet and phone signals were restored in the capital Kabul, as well as in the eastern provinces of Khost, southern Kandahar and western Herat.
The Taliban earlier today denied claims that Afghanistan had been cut off from internet and mobile phone signals, saying they were replacing outdated fiber-optic cables.
Several Afghan provinces confirmed in September that they had cut off fiber-optic internet services in their areas following a decree by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, who claims the government is fighting immorality with the measure.
The United Nations (UN) yesterday called on the Taliban government to urgently restore internet and telecommunications access, and international air traffic over Afghanistan has since been suspended.
