Iranian police detained 21.000 people during the war with Israel in June this year, local media reported.
Police spokesperson Said Montazeralmahdi told state television that the arrest of suspects during the 12-day war indicates the high awareness of the country’s security forces.
He did not say what charges the suspects might face, but stated that more than 260 people are suspected of espionage, while 172 were arrested for illegal recording.
Montazeralmahdi added that during the clashes, police set up more than 1.000 checkpoints across the country.
Since the end of June, Iran has executed seven men convicted of spying for Israel, which has caused concern among activists.
The Israeli military, in airstrikes on Iran, killed nearly 1.100 people, among whom were many military officials and scientists, noting that it also targeted nuclear facilities.
In Iranian counterattacks, 28 people were killed in Israel during the clashes.
