Irresponsible Individuals shot a Swan in the Head with an Arrow at Vrelo Bosne

The Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas in Sarajevo announced that irresponsible individuals had injured a swan at Vrelo Bosne.

As can be seen in the published photos, they shot the swan in the head with an arrow.

“In the area of the Vrelo Bosne Nature Monument, irresponsible individuals injured a swan. The swan (Cygnus olor lat.) is a species that is a symbol of this area. The area they inhabit is their natural habitat. The KJU for protected natural areas ensures that these bird species as well as members of all other species and groups of organisms have adequate protection in accordance with the legal acts by which we govern,” the mentioned institution stated.

They strongly condemned the act of inhumane treatment and the attitude of irresponsible individuals towards a swan and remind that according to the Law on Nature Protection, it is forbidden to intentionally disturb wild animals or catch, injure or kill them without a valid reason.

According to the same Law, a person will be fined in the amount of 500 BAM to 1,500 BAM if he intentionally captures, injures or kills wild animals.

“All measures have been taken to take care of the injured animal, which fortunately is not life-threatening. Visitors who notice irresponsible behavior of individuals, are also requested to report the same to the employees of the Institution, i.e. supervisors in the given area,” they stated.

They ask all visitors not to disturb or endanger the area’s biodiversity with their intentional or unintentional actions while staying in protected natural areas.
