Israel accepts Ceasefire Terms with Hezbollah, Paving the Way for ending Conflict

According to Israeli media reports, Israel’s political leadership is ready to accept all conditions for a ceasefire and an end to the war with Hezbollah.
Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Lebanon, Israeli Channel 12 television reported, paving the way for an end to the conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

The agreement is expected to come into effect on Wednesday. The Channel 12 report followed a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was convened to discuss the ceasefire agreement.

Israeli approval of the agreement would pave the way for a ceasefire declaration by US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Despite diplomatic efforts, hostilities have continued as Israel dramatically stepped up its airstrike campaign in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to make a statement in the coming hours, which would make Israel’s acceptance of the ceasefire official.

Recall that the clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces were activated on October 8th of last year, since when we have been recording daily exchanges of fire between the warring parties, Klix.ba writes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an address to the nation, confirmed the success of the peace process in negotiations with Hezbollah, which confirmed and agreed to a ceasefire.

One of Netanyahu’s first promises from the conditions for a ceasefire with Hezbollah will be the return of Israeli families to northern Israel who left that part of Israel due to fighting.

Explaining the reasons for signing this agreement, Netanyahu said “this Hezbollah is not the same Hezbollah that started the war against Israel.”

Netanyahu said he would present a detailed draft of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah to the entire cabinet for approval, with some details of the ceasefire and how it would be implemented still being worked out.

He stressed that the agreement would allow Israel to focus on the “Iranian threat”. This would shift the entire focus of the military-political leadership to Iran and its presence in Syria and Iraq.

The agreement includes the elimination of Hezbollah’s military presence along the border south of the Litani River and calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon. This partially implements UN Resolution 1701, which has been one of Netanyahu’s main conditions since the beginning of the war.

Lebanese officials have said that the Lebanese army will be deployed in the South Lebanon region within 60 days. This condition was one of the key conditions that were stated in the draft agreements that were recently leaked to the public.

“We managed to achieve many of our goals during this war,” Netanyahu said.

The greatest successes of the Israeli side are the elimination of the political and military leadership led by Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
