Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said that the Israeli army without warning hit the UNRWA school, located in the central part of the Gaza Strip, where displaced Palestinians took refuge.
In a statement on his profile on social networks, Lazzarini said in connection with the Israeli attack on the UNRWA school in the Nusayrat refugee camp:
“Another terrible day in Gaza.”
Lazzarini emphasized that at least 40 people died.
Stating that the affected school was one of the places where displaced Palestinians took refuge, Lazzarini stated that there were 6,000 people in the school at the time of the attack.
Lazzarini pointed out that UNRWA schools have been repeatedly attacked, and added:
“Another UNRWA school was attacked, which was turned into a shelter. The school in Nusayrat, which is in the central part of Gaza, was attacked, it was hit by Israeli forces at night without any warning.”
Referring to claims by the Israeli army that there were “armed Palestinians” in the affected school, Lazzarini said they could not confirm those claims.
Lazzarini noted that 180 UNRWA buildings have been attacked in Gaza since October 7 last year, and that 450 displaced persons have died in those attacks, AA writes.
