It is very sad what was done by certain Individuals who have violated the Interests of the Victims of genocide

On the occasion of the incident at the “Potočari” Memorial Center, the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in B&H issued a statement in which it condemned the physical and verbal assault on the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

“It is very sad what was done in Potočari by certain individuals, who have not just violated the inviolability of the space and time, but also violated the interests of the victims of genocide and the state of B&H. Furthermore, it seemed like they wanted to humiliate the victims, to give an alibi to those from 1995 who performed, and those from 2015 who deny the Srebrenica genocide. These individuals, and all others, Riyasat reminds that Council of Mufti of the Islamic Community of Srebrenica area, proclaimed as place of martyr graveyard and therefore, everyone who comes and stays in this area must keep the dignity of it and behave according to it. Those who come to pay tribute to the victims must enjoy full security as well as dignified treatment “, as stated from the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in B&H.

They reminded that the Serbian Prime Minister was welcomed as a guest by the Mothers of Srebrenica, on the 11th of July 2015 at the Memorial Centre “Potočari”.

“They put the flower of Srebrenica on his lapel, the most honorable memory in their hands on the day when their children and husbands were slaughtered by Serbian soldiers and policemen. He received the flower from the hand of Hatidža Mehmedović, a mother who lost her whole family and was left alone to live with her loneliness. Yes, Hatidža found the strength to put a flower on his hand and thus showed inconceivable strength of overcoming the war statements and activities of the Serbian Prime Minister, and the ability of turning new page in the mutual relationship. Although Vučić arrived to Srebrenica without a ‘wreath of confessing of the genocide’ in his hand, he left it with a wreath of reconciliation from the hand of mothers of victims of the genocide. These facts cannot be ignored, “as said in the statement.

Riyasat of the Islamic community believes that, regardless of the incident, Vučić and all other representatives of Serbia should come to the Memorial Center “Potočari” again, where they will be shown all due respect, but not empty-handed, but with a “wreath of confession of the genocide”.

“If, however, they do not do so, they can keep the wreath of reconciliation which was given to Vučić by Hatidža Mehmedović,” as emphasized by Riyasat in B&H.
