Italy convened a Meeting of G7 Leaders over Iran’s Attacks on Israel

Following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Israel, Italy convened a meeting of G7 leaders on Sunday to discuss the issue, reports Anadolu.

“The Italian presidency of the G7 has called a meeting of leaders for the early afternoon to discuss Iran’s attack on Israel,” the Italian government said in a statement.

Echoing Italy’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the G7 leaders would hold a video conference on Sunday afternoon.

She expressed concern about further destabilization of the region.

“We are following what is happening in the Middle East with attention and concern,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said late on Saturday.

Iran launched an airstrike against Israel late Saturday in retaliation for an April 1 airstrike on an Iranian diplomatic facility in Damascus, Syria. At least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including two generals, were killed in that attack.

The Revolutionary Guard confirmed the launch of dozens of drones and rockets towards Israel on Saturday.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that Israel may decide to retaliate, which experts believe could trigger an all-out regional war.
