Izetbegovic: I am not an Enemy of the Serbian People

I am already used to politicians from Serbia and Republika Srpska (RS), as well as part of the media, deliberately misrepresenting and misinterpreting my statements, in order to present me as an “enemy of the Serbian people”, wrote yesterday the leader of SDA, Bakir Izetbegovic, on the official Facebook profile.

He added that it would be done in the same way with his latest call to stop supporting the xenophobic, chauvinistic, and retrograde policy pursued by the leader SNSD, Milorad Dodik, which is directed against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Bosniaks, but also Serbs who do not support his views.

The reactions that followed, the names of the people, and the way they reacted, confirm that I told the truth. Of course, I am not an enemy of the Serbian people, I grew up with Serbs, and some of my best friends and close associates are Serbs. I do not accuse the entire Serbian people of committed crimes and genocide, Izetbegovic said.

He underlined that individuals are always to blame for crimes, but Serbs must ask themselves, as he said, where did so many criminally oriented individuals come from, and why they were allowed to do what they indisputably did.

He believes that it is about time for the Serbian people to face the truth because, the committed crimes were not individual and at the level of incidents, tens of thousands of Bosniaks and Croat women, someone’s daughters and wives were raped, tens of thousands of civilians, Bosniaks and Croats had experienced horrible tortures in concentration camps and they were someone’s sons, brothers, fathers.

Someone who invites them to face such truths is not the enemy of Serbs. Their enemy is the one who keeps them in false beliefs. At the time, Milorad Dodik was ready to tell painful truths to his people in the face, and then he changed his story, purposefully turning into a nationalist and chauvinist in order to get the majority support of voters – Izetbegovic wrote.

He notes that he has never changed his story, no matter what the cost, he apologized for the crimes committed against Serbs by certain members of the Army of Republica BiH, and also visited Kazan in Sarajevo, but was exposed to media attacks because of that.

He called on Serbs to accept the truth, he did it in Sarajevo, but also in his official visits to Belgrade, and he announced that he would continue to call on them to stop supporting those who keep them lying to them and lead to new misunderstandings and conflicts, BHRT writes.

I call on Serbian leaders, and mainly Milorad Dodik, to recognize the genocide against Bosniaks and apologize on behalf of the Serbian people, to stop glorifying convicted war criminals and recognizing them as heroes, and to apologize for naming the Pale Student Dormitory after a war criminal Radovan Karadzic, and also because he awarded other war criminals – Izetbegovic wrote.
