Bakir Izetbegovic, the Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), stated that a decision on the donation of 50.000 vaccines against COVID-19 from Malaysia was definitely made yesterday, thanks to a call from the member of the Presidency of BiH, Sefik Dzaferovic.
“I arranged something similar with friends from China, 50.000 Chinese vaccines. Also, 30.000 vaccines came from Turkey after my call. There are 130.000 in this way which is solid. It is not a number that will enable mass vaccination, but it is a certain one that can satisfy the riskiest groups at the moment, ” stated Izetbegovic.
Soon, as he said, we will have vaccines from the “EU for Health” program, which is why he has held talks with the representative of the European Union (EU) in BiH, Johann Sattler, in the past days.
“In this way I think we will have a million vaccines in the next two to three months. Then it is already a mass vaccination, ” told Izetbegovic.
Apart from vaccines, Izetbegovic spoke about the “respirators” affair after yesterday’s session of the House of Peoples, claiming that no one in BiH has died on that respirator so far because they serve patients with relatively mild symptoms.
“These are respirators that cannot serve the most severe patients, there is 20 to 30 percent of them in the isolation ward, but they are suitable for those 60, 70, and 80 percent. They are used like that and I know it very well because my wife is Sebija Izetbegovic, the general director of the Sarajevo University Clinical Center (KCUS, ” Izetbegovic said.
According to him, it is expected that after a year of the “respirators” affair, the competent authorities will say “what is the issue with those respirators”.
“There are some very controversial stories and that is being used for an unfounded, in my opinion, a campaign aimed to achieve political goals on one of the most painful topics. It is very inhuman, ugly, and inappropriate to use people’s fear and panic in order to collect some political points, ” Izetbegovic noted.
According to the information from the Chinese embassy, he stated that 20.000 such respirators went to 40 countries and that there was no problem anywhere except in the Federation of BiH.
