Jajce: Traditional Mills for Grinding Grain back in the Function

13288864_1773458762890800_1843153692_nTraditional mills for grinding grain in Jajce will be in the function again after several decades without single grain grinded in them.

According to the available archives, mills in Jajce are more than 400 years old. They are located near the city center, on the Pliva River between the Big and Small Pliva lakes. There was around 30 of them. Residents of Jajce managed to preserve 19 mills, built entirely of wood. Locals used this mills to grind wheat for their needs for centuries. There are many legends told about mills.

With the arrival of electric mills, wooden mills have been shut down, but they are now restored.

Director of the Agency for cultural – historical and natural heritage and development of tourism potentials of Jajce, Huso Hadzic, confirmed that two mills will be put into operation next week, on the 24th and 25th of May, when Fair of tourism and organic products will be held in Jajce.

The agency will give concessions for mills to two man from Jajce, which will grind their grains. It will be a great tourist attraction, but also an interesting commercial processing of grains.

Jajce is one of the most visited tourist destinations in central Bosnia. City is visited by tourists from all around the world, primarily because of the waterfall, which is located in the city center.
