The Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid up to 32,547 Euro (63,658 BAM) for the Project for the Improvement of the Japanese Language and Culture Programme Classroom of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. The signing ceremony of the Grant Contract will be held on Monday, 10 February 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Office of the Dean (Dekanat premises) at the Faculty of Philosophy (Franje Rackog 1, Sarajevo). The Grant Contract will be signed by Japanese Ambassador Sakamoto Hideyuki and Dean Muhamed Dzelilovic.

The Project will enable the Faculty to construct a classroom for Japanese language and culture program with brand new IT equipment including computers and TV conference system.

For years the Faculty of Philosophy of UNSA has offered Japanese Language Lessons to BiH citizens. In addition, the Faculty started Japanese Language Course for postgraduate students of UNSA in October 2019 and will start Japanese Culture Course in October 2020. The Faculty also enjoys long-term cooperation with Sophia University in Tokyo which dispatches its postgraduate students to the Faculty as Japanese language teachers every summer.

Upon the completion of the Project expected before 2020/2021 academic year, the Faculty of Philosophy will provide much better condition for Japanese language and culture program, meeting the growing interest and demand for Japanese language and culture among many citizens, particularly the youth in BiH.

Culture is one of the priorities of Japan’s official development assistance to BiH. Since 1996 the Government of Japan has extended cultural grant aid of nearly 2 million Euro for various cultural projects in BiH.
