The mayors of the capitals of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine, Benjamina Karić and Vitalij Klitschko, will sign the Agreement on the Establishment of Friendly Relations in Brussels on Monday.
The document has six articles, and it enters into force on the day of signing.
The introduction of the Agreement states that “on the basis of friendly relations, the City of Kiev and the City of Sarajevo (hereinafter referred to as the “two cities”) wish to develop fruitful cooperation in a wide range of economic, cultural, touristic, educational and other areas of mutual benefit and prosperity.
In order to improve understanding and friendly cooperation between the two cities, the City of Kiev, Ukraine, and the City of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, agreed to establish friendly relations.
Article 1 states that the cities of Kiev and Sarajevo together represent the European values of democracy, freedom and the rule of law. The two cities are committed to human rights and the principles of international law and promote peaceful coexistence in Europe.
Article 2 states that according to the legislation of each municipality and state, friendly relations between the two cities will be established on the principles of equality and mutual benefit and cooperation in various fields will be strengthened.
Article 3 states that in accordance with the principles of equality and reciprocity, the two cities agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchange of experience in the areas of public space planning, infrastructure projects, new technologies, science and culture, tourism and other areas in order to support prosperity and development both cities.
Article 4 states that the two cities will strive to provide mutual support in crisis situations by providing humanitarian aid, political and economic support.
Article 5 states that the two cities agree that the international relations offices of the two cities will act as a unifying link for both parties. The two cities will maintain regular contacts, joint projects and activities in the mentioned areas.
Article 6 concludes that this Agreement does not affect other inter-city relations of any of the cities and does not give special or privileged legal statuses and rights to any party.”
Karić responded to Klitschko’s invitation to the international investment forum ‘Kyiv Investment Forum’, which will be held on November 28 in Brussels.
Normally, this event is held in the capital of Ukraine, but due to Russian aggression against this country, it was moved to Brussels this year, Klix.ba reports.
