Jazz Fest Sarajevo is Resisting Populism and Banality

jazz-fest-posterThere continues to be a lot of interest for the Jazz Festival. No one can certainly tell what the 17th Jazz Festival will hold next to the already proven dedicated work of the organizers and the enormous enthusiasm.

Festival director Edin Zubčević says: ‘’When you see young people and when you see people who have perhaps come here for the first time, and then you seen them again in two days, you recognize them at another concert. Ultimately, from the results at the box office you see that new people come and that we have a constant influx of new audiences’’.

He added that considering the current situation in society and in the media that bears a huge responsibility for the current state of music, culture and art, this data is more than significant, but the question is whether we know and appreciate it.

‘’And among the public and private broadcasters you have 15 years of systematic policy that promotes bad music. Whoever was born in 1990 and was seven years old in 1997, and I used that year because that is when the Jazz Fest began, and when you have someone who was constantly exposed to a certain type of music from seven to fourteen years old, then it is quite logical that he/she likes that music. Because how do you speak about the popularity of another type of music when you did not have the chance to listen to that music’’, asks Zubčević.
