Jeff Bezos’ Rocket launches First all-female Crew

Jeff Bezos’ rocket launched into space with an all-female crew, including Katy Perry. Monday’s space mission is the first with an all-female crew since the historic flight of Valentina TerJeskova in 1963.

Pop singer Katy Perry has successfully flown to the edge of space and back to Earth in billionaire Jeff Bezos’ rocket. The “Firework” and “California Gurls” singer flew more than 60 miles (100 kilometers) above the Earth’s surface in a spacecraft from Blue Origin, the space company founded by Bezos.

The team included singer Katy Perry, American entrepreneur and Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, TV host Gale King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and former NASA scientists Amanda Nguyen and Aisha Bowe.

The rocket launched from West Texas at around 8:30 a.m. local time and landed ten minutes later. The fully automated spacecraft took off vertically, the crew capsule separated mid-flight, and later returned successfully to the ground, slowed by parachutes and a rocket.

This was also the 11th suborbital operation by Blue Origin, a company that has been providing space tourism services for several years.

The company does not disclose the prices of the flights enabled by its New Shepard rocket.

The flight took passengers above the Karman Line – the internationally recognized boundary of space.
