The final event and joint cross-border exercise is being held in Grude as part of the project “Improving capacity for prevention, preparation and response to disasters – Resilient border”. The project is financed by the European Union within the IPA Two cross-border cooperation programs Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014 – 2020.
The leading partner on the project is the JU Development Agency ŽZH – HERAG (BiH), the Directorate of Civil Protection ŽZH (BiH) and the Municipality of Herceg Novi (Montenegro).
The goal of the project is to improve the prevention and risk management system in order to increase resistance to natural and man-made disasters in the area of the County of Zapadnohercegovačka and the municipality of Herceg Novi.
A joint cross-border emergency intervention team was established, consisting of firefighters, a rescue team from ruins and heights, and a 47-member medical team.
Modern equipment and tools were acquired, as well as two vehicles: a fire engine and a vehicle for intervention in inaccessible terrain.
A training ground for teams was built and equipped in Grude and is the first such training ground in western Herzegovina where exercises and training for firefighting and rescue will be held.
The total value of the project is about one million and 150 thousand marks, and the European Union finances 85% of the project, BHRT writes.
