A joint iftar of imams and priests from eastern Herzegovina was organized in Stolac on Sunday, and messages of peace and coexistence were sent.

Iftar was attended by the parish priest of Bileca, Nebojsa Kolovic, the parish priest of Dabar and Stolac, Ratko Zubac, the parish priest of Nevesinje, Mladen Calija, the chief imam of the Islamic Community Majlis (ICM) Gacko and Bileca Sadet-ef. Bilalic, chief imam of ICM Trebinje hfz. Sadik-ef. Fazlagic, and President of the Executive Board of ICM Bileca, Fadil Kusturica.

The hosts of the iftar were the president of the ICM Stolac Orhan Tikvesa, and the chief imam Mersed-ef. Sabanovic.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no joint iftars were held last Ramadan.

“This iftar continued the established practice of showing mutual care and respect on holidays in both religious traditions, with the aim of strengthening interreligious cooperation, peace, and trust between peoples. This act testifies to the clear commitment of the leaders of the Mufti of Mostar and the Eparchy of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, and as was confirmed by numerous examples, the dialogue has no alternative. It is necessary to work on building a culture of trust and cooperation between religious communities and our peoples, ” as was stated during this meeting, Klix.ba writes.
