Jordan threatened to react if Israel tries to displace Palestinians

The Prime Minister of Jordan, Bisher Khasawneh, said that the displacement of Palestinians and the change of the status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem would be considered an existential threat to this country.

Khasawneh said the Hashemite Kingdom’s peace deal with Israel was a strategic choice, but that mass displacement of Palestinians would pose an existential threat and Jordan would be forced to respond if Israel took such a step, along with steps that change the status quo at Jerusalem’s holy sites.

“We hope that we will never get to that point,” said the Jordanian Prime Minister during his speech in Davos.

The Jordanian Prime Minister notes that Amman has been in serious talks about promoting a water energy deal with Israel.

“Today, under the existing conditions, it is completely unthinkable for any Jordanian minister to just sit on a podium and have that kind of interaction and transaction with an Israeli counterpart,” he says, explaining the kingdom’s decision to pull out of negotiations and calling again for a cease-fire in Gaza.

Khasawneh suggests that Jordan will follow Germany’s path and participate as a third party in the International Court of Justice case in which Israel is accused of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. But Amman will fight on the side of South Africa, which brought the case, while Germany will be on the side of Israel, Klix.ba writes.
