In recent years when someone mentions the Una-Sana Canton (USC) one of the first associations is migrants. Most of them headed for Western Europe to never return home. However, there are examples of them staying in our country. One of them is Kazim from Afghanistan.

Kazim Roshan left Afghanistan for Germany a few years ago. After unsuccessful attempts to cross the border, he stayed in the Lipa camp. Now he works in a hotel as an assistant cook.

“For three months now, I can say that I have a job, a salary, everything that I dreamed of when I set out for a better destiny. I don’t even think about Germany anymore. I want to stay here, I’m learning the Bosnian language, and I’ve made new friends,” he stated,

He says that he would have been in a new home by now if his brother had not drowned in one of his “games”, in the river Una. In difficult times, the people of Krajisnik supported him. He says that he will be eternally grateful to them.

“They were active all the time during the December floods, as well as these recent floods, every hand was necessary, they felt like locals and were in almost every action to take care of those at risk during the floods”, points out Zlatan Kovacevic, president of the SOS organization in Bihac.

Although he doesn’t know the language yet, according to his colleagues, he has fit in well. He works hard, is interested, and learns quickly.

“He is very hard-working, he is obedient, he quickly understands what is said to him, although he does not know the Bosnian language well enough, we communicate with him quite easily, he is hard-working and efficient in his work,” stated hotel employee Silveta Dizdaric.

Kazim passes on his knowledge to others, and while working in the greenhouses of the SOS organization in Bihac, he teaches the other volunteers how to pick tomatoes and peppers, and so on, while he waits for the final asylum approval.
