Banks and authorized exchangers in the FBiH can conduct the purchase of foreign currencies and sales and purchase of checks in currencies that are the subject of purchase and sale in the foreign exchange market, and banks have to publicly announce and publish the courses according to which they purchase and sell foreign cash. According to the exchange rate list of the Central Bank of BiH, in BiH is possible to exchange 17 currencies.

Convertible mark (BAM) exchange rate against foreign currencies is established in accordance with supply and demand in the foreign exchange market and in that way the commercial banks are purchasing and selling those foreign currencies that are on the exchange list of the Central Bank of BiH.

They choose which currencies will be listed on their exchange list according to interest. Therefore, Sberbank has 16 currencies on its exchange list, while Sparkasse has one more or a total of 17.

According to the exchange list of the Central Bank of BiH, in our country, except the EUR, it is possible to replace the currencies that are used in Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Russia, China and Serbia.

Although the number of tourists from the United Arab Emirates in BiH is recording an increase every day, none of these two banks are purchasing the currency that is used in the UAE and it is not on the exchange list of the Central Bank of BiH.

“In case that clients show interest in converting UAE currencies, the bank has the option of extending the exchange list or adding new currencies,” as stated from the Sparkasse.

Interest also plays a key role when it comes to exchanging EUR or other foreign currency for the convertible mark (BAM) abroad. According to the data of the Central Bank of BiH, the exchange is possible in case that there is an interest of authorized foreign exchange offices for the purchase or sale of the convertible mark (BAM).
