Komsic: January 9, a Symbol of the failed attempt of Accession of BiH to “Greater Serbia”

The ninth of January is nothing but a day that cannot be treated otherwise than as the anniversary of the beginning of the failed attempt to secede a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina or to annex the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Republic of Serbia, said Chairman of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić.

“All the parading of the authorities of the RS entity is just an attempt to cover up the historical defeat of the Great Serbian policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina in its basic goals. The main goal of that policy was to keep Bosnia and Herzegovina within Yugoslavia, that is, its integration into the system of “Greater” Serbia,” says Komšić.

According to him, that unfulfilled goal was proclaimed by the actors of the Great Serbian politics themselves, precisely on January 9, when the so-called Assembly of the Serbian People on January 9, 1992 in Sarajevo proclaimed the Republic of the Serbian People of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which according to that proclamation is part of the Federal of the State of Yugoslavia, as its federal unit.

The only way for a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina to remain part of the Federal State of Yugoslavia, as its federal unit, was for the advocates of that policy, faced with a legal defeat, (because the declaration of that illegal assembly, unlike the referendum on the independence of BiH, no one in the world admitted) the use of genocidal violence.

That process, which had as its goal the destruction of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its entire peoples, began on January 9, but in the end it did not result in parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina belonging to another state, namely Serbia.

“When the authorities of the RS entity today celebrate the anniversary of January 9, they simultaneously cover up the fact that the Great Serbian regime of Milosevic and Karadzic, even with the help of genocide, did not succeed in making part of Bosnia and Herzegovina part of the Republic of Serbia. The frequent calls of Greater Serbian politicians on both sides of the Drina for alleged unification in the best way testify to the failure to fulfill the political goals of January 9 and the goals that were proclaimed through the declaration of the illegal so-called Assembly of the Serbian People of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” says Komšić.

As he points out, the RS is an entity in the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and not a federal unit within the Republic of Serbia, as it was intended and in the name of which genocide against Bosniaks and crimes against humanity against Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina were committed.

Actors of Greater Serbian politics on both sides of the Drina missed the opportunity to seize part of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1992 to 1995, when they had absolute military superiority.

“They were stopped in this, with the great sacrifices of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the heroism of the members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Interior of the RBiH. Although they continue to represent them, the goals from the declaration of January 9, according to which part of Bosnia and Herzegovina should have been annexed to Serbia, will never be realized. Milorad Dodik is neither allowed, nor able, nor has he the wherewithal to sacrifice over twenty one thousand Serbian soldiers (as many as died during the aggression) for a new attempt at secession. And that’s all he needs, just to try,” concluded Komšić.
