The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, met with the management of the Basic Trade Union Organization of the Srebrenica Memorial Center regarding the recent pressures exerted by the Republika Srpska entities on the employees and associates of this state institution.

During the meeting, Komšić expressed his full support for the work of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, its management and all employees. On that occasion, he emphasized that an institution whose primary mission is preserving the memory of genocide victims, documenting facts and archiving testimonies about committed crimes must have complete protection and ensure undisturbed conditions for daily work.

During the conversation, the member of the BiH Presidency emphasized that the work of the Memorial Center should not be questioned or limited due to political pressures. He underlined that this institution has a statutory mandate and that it is of key importance for the culture of memory and the process of dealing with the past in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As a key conclusion of today’s meeting, it was pointed out that ensuring the full implementation of the Law on the Srebrenica Memorial Center is an absolute priority. This implies the provision of appropriate organizational, financial and personnel capacities so that the institution in Potočari can function fully and without interference.
